The new Z4 roadster is too hot for BMW to be able to keep a lid on it. This all-new generation has leaked out early and is everything we were hoping for.
Three exclusive photos have been released by a forum member of supramkv.com, a specialist website. They show a red Z4 roadster from the front, back and side. The images also support the fact that it will debut at Pebble Beach.
This is a home-run design for BMW, as the Z4 looks every bit as good as the concept which previewed it. In fact, we rather prefer this M40i appearance package, with its blacked-out grille surround and much more substantial, wider set exhaust tips.
The Z4 boasts some of the slimmest taillights we’ve seen which frame a pronounced ducktail spoiler in the trunk lid. Of course, not all models will look like this, as BMW is planning to go even below 200 HP with cheaper cars.
Th specs for the range-topping model have been leaked: 360 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque from 1,520 to 4,800 rpm. However, there’s also going to be an M40i Competition Package with over 380 HP. Expect a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of around 4.5 seconds and a price tag that starts from €50,000.
In addition to more aero, the M models will have a locking mechanical differential, big brakes, and adaptive dampers. “The high level of body stiffness and the very rigid suspension attachment provide the perfect basis for a set-up that guarantees the performance qualities of a genuine sports car in terms of steering precision as well as longitudinal and transverse acceleration,” said in a statement Jos van As, BMW head of Application Suspension.
The cheapest Z4 will be the sDrive20i, available with a manual gearbox in addition to the usual 8-speed automatic. This will give it 197 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque.
